Lead slips away from B-E boys
The Brandon-Evansville boys’ basketball team played one of its better halves of the season on Tuesday but couldn’t sustain that in a 71-67 loss to Parkers Prairie.
The Chargers led 40-32 at the half, but 23 points from Grant Yohnke led the Panthers to a win. Brandon-Evansville had 13 turnovers after the break and 21 for the game. Parkers Prairie turned the ball over 19 times, but the three-point line was a key factor in the outcome. The Panthers hit 9-of-17 shots from behind the arc, while the Chargers went 1-for-5.
“We just let it get away,” Brandon-Evansville head coach John Holsten said. “Give Parkers credit. They forced us into some stuff, and we didn’t handle it very well. We had eight turnovers the first half and 13 in the second half. That was pretty much the difference. They were able to turn those turnovers into easy baskets, and they also shot so well from three.”Skyler Quinn had one of his better all-around games of the season for the Chargers. He had a team-high 22 points, while grabbing five rebounds. He also had seven of Brandon-Evansville’s 10 steals.“I think he was able to deflect some passes to himself and had some nice steals,” Holsten said. “He did some good things on the defensive end, and then went 11-of-17 from the field.”James Huisman was in double figures with 11 points, two rebounds and three assists. Will Schroeder also had a career high 15 points to go along with six rebounds. Schroeder shot 6-of-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line.“That’s a pretty good night for Will,” Holsten said.It wasn’t quite enough to hold off Parkers Prairie as the Panthers moved to 3-4 on the season and to 2-2 in the Little Eight Conference. The Chargers fell to 1-8 overall and to 0-4 in the LEC.“We have to guard the ball a little tighter and contest shots a little better,” Holsten said. “Then at the offensive end, we have to find guys who value the basketball a little more. If we can do that we’ll be OK.”
