Krumkake, kolaches and lefse, oh my!

The Douglas County Historical Society (DCHS) in Alexandria will hold its annual Ethnic Bake Sale and Open House on Friday, December 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at DCHS. The historic Knute Nelson house will be decorated for guests.

Attendees can watch live demonstrations of lefse and krumkake making and shop for home-baked ethnic delicacies, including kolaches, rosettes, spritz, Swedish almond cakes, pizelles, Swedish flatbread, ready-to-bake apple pies, krumkake and lefse.

Sandra or Heidi from the Scandinavian Gift Shop will be in Knute’s kitchen to display and sell a varied selection of unique merchandise

After guests are done with bake sale shopping, they are invited to have a cup of lingonberry cider in the dining room and purchase a bowl of Knute’s favorite bean soup. Quarts of frozen bean soup will also be available.
