Kotek makes day two of 6AA meet

The Osakis boys’ golf team didn’t make the cut after shooting a team score of 381 on Monday at the Section 6AA meet, but senior Joey Kotek advanced as an individual to day two.

Kotek wrapped up his career with Osakis by shooting a 92 for a two-day score of 176. His 84 on Monday tied him with Jacob Dickhaus of Melrose as the final two individuals to advance to the second round.

Osakis’ Ryan Strelow shot a 93 to finish as Osakis’ second scorer in the opening round. Mitch Tersteeg shot a 94 and Carl Haider carded a 110. RJ Dykema also played and shot a 111. The Silverstreaks’ low scorer this year, Joe Garcia, did not play at the meet because of an illness.

“That hurt,” head coach Steve Tax said. “Joey capped off a nice career by qualifying for the second day.”

Staples-Motley won the team title with a two-day score of 628. St. Cloud Cathedral was second at 653, Becker was third at 677 and Little Falls finished fourth by shooting 689.
