Knute Nelson dedicates new Healing Gardens
Knute Nelson welcomes area residents, families, and interested individuals to join a Healing Gardens grand celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 19 at 420 12th Avenue East, Alexandria.
There will be a program at 2:30 p.m. to recognize benefactors and community partners who have helped to make the Healing Gardens possible. Also included will be a special ceremony to honor the 60th anniversary of Knute Nelson and a tribute to Senator Knute Nelson led by Rachel Barduson of the Douglas County Historical Society.
The public is welcome to attend.
Construction of the Healing Gardens was completed last fall. The gardens were built as a way to provide an outdoor place of respite for all residents to enjoy that promotes independence and fulfillment, healing and relaxation, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
The Healing Gardens encourages residents to enjoy the outdoors, become involved in gardening once again, and promotes socialization and independence.
The gardens were designed to stimulate the senses of residents by including audio and visual attractions, shade, landmarks, a handicapped-accessible swing and plants for fragrance.
