A thunderstorm and the threat of more rain didn't spoil the fun at the Lakes Area Endurance runs in Alexandria Friday and Saturday.

Sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the races began Friday night with a One-Mile Family Fun Run where children were encouraged to catch a runner dressed in Cardinal suit. A 5K race also took place. A heavy downpour before the races led to a short delay but the runners stayed dry, dodging the puddles.

The action continued on Saturday with quarter-marathon and half-marathon races. No rain fell but runners did have to contend with strong winds and high humidity.

All the races began and finished at the Alexandria Area YMCA.
