K.I.D. F.U.N. to host open house at Lake Carlos State Park
Come celebrate Minnesota State Park's Open House Day, Saturday, June 12 at Lake Carlos State Park, where K.I.D. F.U.N. (Kreative Ideas Designed For Understanding Nature) volunteers have planned a day full of fun for the entire family.
Admission into the State Park is free on open house day, so come and go as you please, or stay all day.
K.I.D. F.U.N. volunteers are working together to create a nature inspired outdoor play area at Lake Carlos State Park. Their goal is to design and create a playground that will blend fun, physical activity into the natural setting of the park. The area will also encourage and engage youth in a greater understanding of the environment.
Volunteers are currently planning the third annual family fun day to be held during open house day. They have planned a full day of activities for both the young in age and the young at heart. The day will begin with a geocaching demonstration and an author visit by Chris Niskanen, author of Prairie, Lake, Forest: Minnesota's State Parks, at 10 a.m. followed by a free will donation picnic lunch.
During the afternoon families can enjoy pontoon rides, youth fishing, canoe lessons and rides, kayak lessons and rides, old-fashioned games, bee keeping demonstrations, interpretive hikes, naturalist programs, music by Ken Meyer and more.
Lake Carlos State Park is located 10 miles north of Alexandria on State Highway 29, then two miles west on Highway 38. For park information, contact the park office at (320) 852-7200.
