Keep a light on for cancer fight next Tuesday
The Douglas County Relay For Life fundraiser for cancer research will be observing its 20th year this summer.
The American Cancer Society's 100th birthday is also happening this year.
On the eve of the 100th birthday, local Relay for Life organizers are encouraging residents to show their commitment to help finish the fight against cancer by lighting a luminaria and placing it outside their place of residence as darkness sets on Tuesday, May 21. (If conditions are still dry, it would be safer to use a light instead of a candle.)
"Our goal is to light the world with our passion to end this disease," said Cancer Society leaders. "We will also integrate the idea on social media by asking people to light up their profile pictures with a special badge/twibbon."
