John Fisher to speak at retired educators' event
John Fisher will speak at the Vikingland Area Retired Educators' luncheon on Wednesday, December 12 at noon at the Holiday Inn in Alexandria.
Fisher, the newly elected president of Retired Educators Association of Minnesota (REAM), served as REAM's legislative co-chair with Denis Deanovic of Faribault.
He met with Minnesota legislators, advocating for the importance of pensions to Minnesota public sector workers financial independence and their contribution to the Minnesota economy.
Prior to his REAM activities, Fisher was a Mounds View High School social studies instructor for 35 years and was MVHS Lincoln Douglas debate and speech coach. He still judges debate and speech contests.
REAM's main purpose is to monitor and protect Minnesota school personnel's public pensions. Membership in REAM is open to anyone who is retired or within five years of retirement who has worked in a Minnesota school district or state college or university.
The Jefferson Carolers will sing at the luncheon. Donations will be accepted for the Douglas County Outreach Food Shelf and AAUW for the purchase of children's books.
All persons living in this area who have been involved with education as teachers, administrators or support staff are welcome to attend.
