Joe Schmit to visit Cherry Street Books
Cherry Street Books in Alexandria will welcome award-winning television sports broadcaster, Joe Schmit, to the store on Friday, May 2.
Schmit has authored a new book called Silent Impact and will be available for book signing from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
In Silent Impact: Stories of Influence Through Purpose, Persistence and Passion, Schmit uses his own experiences such as a battle with cancer and involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as stories from many inspirational sports legends.
“All the stories are about ‘impact players’ – people who made everyone around them better just by being there,” Schmit said. “Sure, I have stories on Hall of Famers and Olympians, but I want people to realize that they don’t need to be world famous to be world class in influence.”
Schmit said the movement behind this book, known as the Silent Impact, “is all about being intentional about influence, recognizing its source, and realizing its potential.”
Kathleen Blatz, retired Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, made this comment about Schmit’s book: “Joe Schmit has a remarkable ability to unwrap life’s ordinary moments to discover the gifts within.”
Schmit is an award-winning broadcaster, community leader and popular keynote speaker. He has covered every major sporting event in the past three decades as sports director for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis and is a regular on 1500-ESPN Radio.
He has won 15 Emmys from the National Television Academy and a National Headliner Award.
The May 2 event is free and open to the public. If you are unable to attend and would like a signed copy of Schmit’s book, call (320) 763-9400 in advance to reserve a copy.
Schmit wants to hear people’s stories of influence and how they (or a friend) made an impact in the life of someone else. Stories may be submitted to email@example.com.
