Jimmy Jenson to perform free concert Thursday
Jimmy Jenson will perform at the Red Willow Arts Coalition free concert on Thursday, August 23 at 7 p.m. on the lawn at the Douglas County Courthouse in Alexandria.
Known as "The Swingin' Swede," the accordion player has been performing for more than 70 years. He started playing at basket socials at age 6.
During the 1950s he played with the Woodchoppers, often heard live on Fargo Moorhead radio and later playing for shows in the Twin Cities.
Jenson has spent his entire career improvising, as he does not read music.
Recently, Jenson has turned to singing gospel.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of inclement weather, listen to KXRA 1400 AM for cancellation information.
The series is sponsored by Anderson Funeral Home and Elden's Fresh Foods. This concert is sponsored by West Central Sanitation.
The Red Willow Arts Coalition is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide the community with access to more musical experiences.
