JHS student takes second at district contest
After winning American Legion Post 87's High School Oratorical Contest at Jefferson High School (JHS) in Alexandria, Stephanie Anderson went on to represent Alexandria at the district contest in Litchfield.
Anderson placed second at that event and earned a $500 scholarship.
Post 87's oratorical contest took place on December 13, with students from JHS, Discovery Middle School in Alexandria and Osakis High School in Osakis competing.
At the district level, contestants could win up to a $750 scholarship and advance to the department (state) level where they could win up to a $1,500 scholarship and then advance to the national contest.
This was the 76th year that the American Legion has held this scholarship contest.
