JHS marching band completes another successful season
The Alexandria Jefferson High School Marching Band recently completed a successful season, marching in nine parades in May, June and July. The band played the music of Mary Poppins. Strong performances by the color guard, drumline and wind sections fueled success in the competitive parades.
The band also had a joint "Root Beer Float concert" with the Stabekk Band of Oslo, Norway on June 28. More than 1,000 people attended the concert.
Following are parades in which the band marched and the results of the competitive parades.
May 26 - Memorial Day Parade, Alexandria; June 7 - state firemen's convention parade, Alexandria; June 14 - Buffalo Days Parade, Buffalo, 2nd place in class AAA; June 21 - Marching Band Classic, Red Wing, 1st place in class AA, grand champion, outstanding color guard, outstanding wind section, people's choice; June 21 - Lake Waconia Band Festival, Waconia, 3rd place in class AAA; June 28 - Root Beer Float concert, Alexandria; June 28 - Willmar Fest Parade, 2nd place in open class; June 29 - Vikingland Band Festival, Alexandria, host band; July 1 - performed for residents of Knute Nelson and Nelson Gables; July 4 - St. Joseph parade and Apple Valley parade, 1st place outstanding high school band.
