Jefferson musical receives Hennepin Theatre trust honors
Hennepin Theatre Trust’s SpotLight Musical Theatre Program has awarded the Alexandria Jefferson High School (JHS) theater department’s spring musical cast, crew, orchestra and creative team with some of the highest honors it bestows.
JHS’s production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, which ran April 24-27, was adjudicated by three educational theater artisans in a variety of categories ranging from chorus to choreography to technical elements.
The JHS orchestra earned Outstanding Honors in the category of Performance by a Student Orchestra.
In categories of Overall Production and Performance, JHS was awarded Honorable Mention.
The following individual awards were also presented:
Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role – Anna Peterson, junior, as Millie Dillmount; Aaron Halvorson, senior, as Jimmy Smith.
Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role – Molly Fitzgerald, junior, as Mrs. Meers.
Honorable Mention Performance in a Supporting Role – Max Jacobson, junior, as Trevor Graydon; Tori Long, senior, as Miss Dorothy Brown; Kari Norheim, junior, as Muzzy Van Hossmere; Jimmy Pfeffer, junior, as Ching Ho; Kyle Pietrowski, junior, as Bun Foo.
Honorable Mention Performance in a Featured Role – Danielle Cumberbatch as Flannery.
All student award-winners were invited to perform on the Orpheum stage in Minneapolis as part of the statewide SpotLight performance by Honorable Mention and Outstanding high school musical theater performers on Monday, June 9.
SpotLight honors high school musicals and students by recognizing the achievements and process of developing the young artists, onstage and offstage, in Minnesota high school musical theater programs.
“These awards are a wonderful way to end our theater season,” said JHS theater director Jessica Chipman. “We feel that any award, individual or otherwise, is a reflection of the whole team. I am proud of all of our students for the fantastic show they gave to our community and cannot wait for next year.”
