As a National Merit Semifinalist, Score, the son of David and Dawn Score, ranks among the top 1 percent of high school seniors nationwide and is eligible to compete for some 8,300 merit scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. Score will complete an additional application process to be considered for a National Merit Scholarship. Finalists will be named in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and ending in July 2013.

In addition, about 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their exception academic talent. Although they will not continue in the 2013 competition for scholarship awards, commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition. At Jefferson High School, the following seniors are 2013 National Merit Commended Students:

Grace Griffin, daughter of Doug and Mary Griffin; Emma Lawrence, daughter of Nan Haggerty and Jon Blocher; and Halie Nettleton, daughter of Bill and Nicole Nettleton.
