Jefferson High School math team completes season
The Jefferson High School (JHS) math league team finished in 2nd place at its fifth and final meet of the season on Monday, February 13.
The Alexandria team competed against Bemidji, Breckenridge, Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead, Roseau and Thief River Falls.
Team scores were: Bemidji 77, Alexandria 75, Breckenridge 60, Thief River Falls 51, Detroit Lakes 49, Fergus Falls 44, Roseau 44 and Moorhead 36.
Alexandria finished the season in 2nd place in the division. Season team scores were: Bemidji 335, Alexandria 293, Detroit Lakes 243, Breckenridge 238, Thief River Falls 203, Fergus Falls 196, Moorhead 185 and Roseau 129.
Bemidji will represent the Northwestern Lights Division at the state tournament in March.
Alexandria's top scorer for the February 13 meet was Ben Tollefson with 11 points. Hailey Haugen, Jade Mathre and Leah Stinson each earned 10 points.
A divisional awards ceremony was held following the meet. The JHS team received a plaque for finishing in 2nd place. Individual awards went to:
Ben Tollefson - 1st place in the division, top team scorer, 1st team all-conference;
Taylor Score - 6th place in the division, 1st team all-conference;
Will Sieling - 8th place in the division, 1st team all-conference;
Kalli Bowser - 2nd team all-conference;
Jade Mathre - 2nd team all-conference;
Ally Timm - 2nd team all-conference;
John Turner - 2nd team all-conference;
Marissa Wheeler - 2nd team all-conference;
Ted Deitz: all-conference honorable mention.
According to coach Amanda Meyer, this year's team was built around a solid core of seniors - Dalton Gusaas, Jade Mathre, Austin McCulloch, Nicholas Schlapkohl, Will Sieling, Leah Stinson, Christian Thompson and John Turner.
"We extend best wishes to our senior members - you will be missed next year," Meyer noted. "We should return 22 members as we look forward to the 2012-2013 season."
