James Wethor, age 79 of Emery, S.D., died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, S.D.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 27 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Emery. Burial, with military honors, was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Hettinger-Bittner Funeral Chapel in Emery.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1928 at the farm home of his parents, Charles J. and Helen (Hoffman) Wethor. He attended St. Martin's Catholic School and worked on his parents' farm.
In March 1951, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served in Korea with the 48th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. Following his service, he took over the family farm.
On June 1, 1953, he married Jeanette Haiar at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Farmer, S.D. They farmed until 1985, when they retired and moved to Emery. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, where he was eucharistic minister, usher and council member. He was a member of American Legion Post 166.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters: Barb Lienemann and husband Steve, Morris, Minn.; and Jane Simons and husband Duane, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son, Mike and wife Tami, Emery, S.D.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, a brother, Jerry, Luverne, Minn.; a sister, Lenora Krier, Emery, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wethor, Mitchell, S.D..
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Cecelia Loes and Bernadette Hillard; and three brothers, Francis, Robert and Charles.
