Jim was baptized and confirmed at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Kensett. Jim and Arlis Remakel were married September 14, 1950 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. They retired to the Alexandria area in the late 1980s and lived on Lake Mary until God called him home.

During Jim's early years, he farmed. His trade was an iron worker.

Jim's absolute joys in life were his family and friends, fishing...fishing...fishing, hunting, playing his concertina, building things with his hands, mentoring the younger generation, annual trip south to escape the Minnesota winters, and sharing stories about his life adventures.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sam Dokken and Leslie Dokken; sisters, Mary Klinge and Barbara Dokken; grandson, Douglas Matthew Felt; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Dokken, Vicky Dokken and Donna Dokken; brother-in-law, Ronnie Erickson; and niece, Robin Engelby.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 2 at 1 p.m. at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 4108 Killdeer Ave., Kensett, IA.
