Items to be collected soon for Habitat garage sale
Friends of Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County are organizing its annual garage sale.
It will take place Saturday, May 22 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alexandria Runestone Community Center (RCC) main rink.
The goal is to resell good, donated merchandise to raise funds to assist in building of affordable Habitat homes.
Items may be dropped off on Friday, May 21 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The drop-off area is through the back garage door of the RCC's main rink. You can just drive right in the building.
All donations are tax deductible; receipts are available when items are dropped off.
Items must be in good salable condition and include the following:
Clothing - all types and sizes (in good, clean condition).
Lawn and garden tools and equipment (no chemicals).
Any kind of sporting goods - hunting, fishing, etc.
Household items of all kinds (small appliances, dishes, pans, etc.).
Furniture (except upholstered items like couches, etc. unless new).
Cameras - film or digital.
Tools - old and new, hand tools, portable power tools.
Antiques, coins and collectibles (please let organizers know the approximate value when dropped off).
Arts and craft items.
Books, toys, games, baby items (no car seats or potty chairs).
New building supplies.
Lumber in good condition.
Plumbing and electrical materials.
Items that cannot be accepted for donation include:
No hazardous waste - paint or solvents, oil, gas or propane containers.
None of the following: shoes, purses, soiled or torn clothing, TVs, computer systems, upholstered furniture, exercise equipment or stoves.

Larger items include cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles, lawn mowers, fish houses, canoes, refrigerators, freezers, cabinets, lumber, appliances, doors, windows, building materials, etc.
A warehouse sale with the larger items will take place May 22 at the Habitat for Humanity warehouse, 1605 Melvina Lane SW, Alexandria from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Businesses or individuals that would like to donate gift certificates, cash, gifts in kind, or other types of donations should contact Bergan or Anderson.

Organizers noted that if you don't have items to donate you may still help by considering the following:

Make a cash donation to Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County.
Volunteer to help with the sale or with the Habitat for Humanity's 2010 building program.
