Ida Johnson, 86

Ida Johnson, 86, loving wife and mother, passed away following a stroke on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls.

Ida was born the eighth child of Henry and Ida (Wachlin) Oldenburg in Hewitt on October 18, 1927. She graduated from high school in Hewitt, worked as a nurse prior to meeting her husband Walter Johnson at a dance in Hewitt. They were married on April 24, 1948 and made their home and farmed for 20 years around Sebeka, moved to Colorado Springs, CO, then Farwell, MN, where they remained for over 30 years.

Following the death of her husband, she moved to Alexandria.

Ida loved her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, finding treasures at flea markets and garage sales, gardening, going to the casino, was an avid bowler and very active grandma. We love you and we will all miss you.

Ida was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Walter, in 1998; parents, Henry and Ida; son, Richard, in 2000; sisters, Margaret Lehmkuhl, Marie Greenwaldt, Dorothy Rach and Bertha Sundby; and brothers, George and John Oldenburg.

She is survived by her children, Edwin (Janice) of Willow Springs, MO, Robert (Mary) of Joplin, MO, Sheila of Fergus Falls, Henry (Sherry) of Springfield, MO, Wanda (Tony) Sorum of Oslo, Kathy (Steve) Bullard of Houston, TX; brother, Harry (Georgiana) Oldenburg of New Richmond, WI; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service was held Monday, July 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hewitt with Pastor Gerold Goetz officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Zach Johnson, Leah Johnson-Riviello, Ronnie Sundby, Chad Lindsay, Dane Sorum and Adam Sorum.

Honorary pallbearers were Erick Johnson, Nick Johnson, Ricky Johnson, Rose Childres-Lindsay, Aspen Lindsay, John Johnson, Chris Johnson, Shyann Johnson, Aaron Sorum and Brian Sorum.

Burial was at Hay Creek Cemetery near Sebeka.
