Does he love to jump up enthusiastically on all visitors who enter your home, barks at anything that comes into his line of sight or delightfully drags you down the road when out on walks?

If these scenarios sound familiar, the Lakes Area Humane Society (LAHS) has the class for you and your pet.

Starting on Tuesday, January 5 at 6 p.m., the LAHS will be holding Beginner Dog Obedience Training Classes. The classes will be held on five consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will be taught by local professional dog trainer, Randy Buker.

The first class on January 5 will be held at the LAHS shelter and will be without dogs present. The following four sessions will be held at the Alexandria Technical College Gym.

Cost for the five-week course is $60 per dog enrolled and class size is limited to the first 15 registrants. To register, call the Lakes Area Humane Society at (320) 759-2260. All proceeds will benefit the animals cared for at the shelter.

Obedience training is the cornerstone upon which great dogs are built, according to the LAHS. It makes them better companions, more trustworthy household pets and better hunters. The LAHS said every responsible dog owner owes it to his or her dog to spend the time required in teaching basic obedience.
