Hoping to avoid a repeat performance
Preparations are under way for the annual Passion Drama presented by members of Zion Lutheran and Good Shepherd Lutheran churches of Alexandria.
Organziers regularly check the forcast, hopeful for some warmer temperatures. Last year’s event was cancelled due to the cold.
“This is our 18th year, and we’ve only had to cancel once,” noted event organizer Jeff Roste. “We postponed it twice but were still able to put it on those years.
“Right now, we are planning to go ahead with it,” he added. “The forecast is looking good, with [projected] temps in the 40s to 50s. Obviously, something could take a turn, but we’re hoping for the best.”
Roste said volunteers have staged the annual Passion Drama in temperatures as low as 25 degrees and as warm as 70 degrees.
“There were people getting sunburned one year,” he said of the unpredictable spring temperatures. “Twenty-five degrees is about the coldest we’d go, and that’s with no wind. You factor in wind chill and that’s just too cold for something like this.”
This year’s Passion Drama is set for Sunday, April 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, April 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Zion Church, 300 Lake Street in Alexandria.
