History on parade
Echo Press photo by Karla Mikkelson.
Alexandria Fire Marshal Dennis Stark showed off the 1917 American LaFrance in Saturday's parade down Broadway. The chain-drive truck was the first motorized vehicle purchased by the Alexandria Fire Department, at a cost of $6,700 in 1918. The department is celebrating its 125th anniversary. The parade was a joint effort of the Minnesota Firefighters Conference and Alexandria's 150th Sesquicentennial Celebration.
