Head to Evansville on the 'First Friday'
Singer/songwriter Jim Burt will perform during the First Friday concert on June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Evansville Art Center, 111 Main Street.
The juke box music of the 1950s and 1960s was Burt's first introduction to early rock and roll, folk and country. When the American rock of the 60s and the British Invasion took over the airways, his love for rock and roll grew. He played in a couple of bands in the 1990s, playing many of his favorite cover songs as well as his own.
Burt started to pitch his songs to publishers in the early 1990s. He obtained single song publishing contracts for three: Norma Jean Biker, Movin' On and Walking. These songs eventually wound up on recordings when Burt was a member of the trio Meritage.
Burt's song Sweet Music made the compilation CD Raw Cuts on Rodell Records in 1993. Burt became a BMI-affiliated songwriter and publisher (Jimz Productions) in 1992.
Burt has been performing his songs throughout Minnesota since 2003. His first solo project, Sweet Music, was released in January 2004. His second project, Another Direction, was on iTunes and Rhapsody until October 2011.
