Hall of Fame event, Jeans and Jewels Gala raise more than $10,000
The Alexandria Education Foundation (AEF) recently hosted its annual Hall of Fame Luncheon and Jeans and Jewels Gala at the Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria as part of the School District 206 homecoming festivities.
Proceeds from the events, which totaled nearly $10,500, will go to fund innovative teaching ideas that increase learning opportunities for District 206 students.
AEF established the Hall of Fame event to honor deserving District 206 alumni and staff for excellence, accomplishments and recognition in their field.
This year, three individuals were inducted into the Hall of Fame – Robert Roubik, Marjorie (Engstrand) Van Gorp, and Vern Anderson.
More than 200 alumni, family, friends and community members attended the luncheon held September 27.
Later that evening, the foundation hosted the fifth annual Jeans and Jewels Gala around the theme “Back to School.”
More than 300 attended this event, which serves as an appreciation for 206 Club members (individuals/couples who donate $206 annually to the foundation), an opportunity for potential members to learn more about the foundation, as well as a fundraiser open to the public.
The event featured silent auction items, jewelry prize drawings, a spelling bee and special event prizes, courtesy of local donors.
The 2014 Hall of Fame Luncheon and Jeans and Jewels Gala have been set for Friday, September 20 and will again be tied to homecoming.
