Administered and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that provides opportunities for people of all ages to serve full-time for one year with a community organization.

In exchange for their service, VISTA members receive a living allowance of $946 per month, health benefits and student loan forbearance. In addition, after completing the one-year service commitment, VISTA members can choose to receive either a cash stipend of $1,500 or an education award of $5,550 to be used for tuition or student loans.

Habitat VISTA members spend one year working full-time on projects designed to increase the organizational capacity of local Habitat affiliates. This position also includes leadership and professional development training.

The position begins on July 30 and ends on August 2, 2014. VISTA members recruit and coordinate volunteers, raise funds and secure in-kind donations, start new programs, and conduct outreach and marketing campaigns.

Last year, Habitat VISTA members statewide recruited and coordinated more than 2,650 volunteers who contributed more than 15,400 hours of their time to Habitat statewide.

In addition, Habitat VISTA members secured more than $50,700 in in-kind donations and $365,100 in grants and monetary donations.

The upcoming local VISTA position will concentrate on new program development. It will help the organization implement A Brush With Kindness and market the Critical Home Repair program, both of which are new initiatives to help existing homeowners repair homes they currently own.

The VISTA will also provide organizational leadership in the warehouse sales of new and gently used building and home materials to the public.

Interested candidates should apply by visiting www.hfhdouglascounty.org. VISTA positions are filled on a rolling basis.
