Habitat for Humanity to host community open house and volunteer kick-off
Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) is hosting a community open house and a volunteer kick-off on Thursday, April 12. The events will be held at the HFHDC office at 1211 North Nokomis NE in Alexandria.
During the open house, being held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., community members are invited to tour the new office space and learn more about the mission of HFHDC.
Individuals interested in learning about upcoming opportunities for volunteer involvement with HFHDC are invited to attend the afternoon's volunteer kick-off from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Members from the various volunteer committees, as well as Habitat staff will be on hand to answer questions and sign up volunteers. Current volunteers are encouraged to attend to update their waivers for the upcoming build season.
Both events will be a good opportunity for members of the community to learn about Habitat's plans for 2012. The affiliate is partnering with four families this year: Eric Magnuson and his children, Lucas and Julia; Julie Ollman and her children, Alexis and Sarah; Anna Holloway and her children, Kyle, Rebecca and Juliana; and Darla Koloski and her children, Thalen, Brianna, Blake, Trent and Skylar. They are all looking forward to working alongside Habitat volunteers in building their homes.
There are many ways to become involved with Habitat for Humanity. They are best known for engaging volunteers in construction activities, but they also benefit by assistance from volunteers who contribute to operations in other equally important ways.
