Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County receives Edina Realty Foundation grant
Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) received a grant from The Edina Realty Foundation to help support its mission to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Habitat for Humanity builds and repairs houses all over the world using volunteer labor and donations. Its partner families purchase the houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans or innovative financing methods.
The Edina Realty Foundation supports organizations that help homeless children, families and individuals in the communities where Edina Realty does business. To date, the foundation has raised more than $7.3 million.
“Our primary purpose is to help people buy and sell homes,” said Mike Munson, office manager, Edina Realty Alexandria office. “But adequate shelter is a major issue for some people in our community.”
On any given night, more than 10,000 Minnesotans are homeless, according to Wilder Center research. The number of Minnesotans who were homeless increased 6 percent between 2009 and 2012. Nearly half of homeless persons are younger than 21, and one-third are children with their families.
