Habitat to hold spring volunteer kick-off
The weather outside may not seem spring-like this year, but local residents are encouraged to "think spring" and check out the Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) Spring Volunteer Kick-off.
The kick-off will be held on Tuesday, April 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the HFHDC office, 1211 North Nokomis Northeast in Alexandria.
Those who attend will be able to visit with Habitat staff and committee members. They will also learn more about the plans for 2013 and ways to be involved.
There are many volunteer roles in the construction of homes, as well as a variety of other volunteer roles outside of construction.
HFHDC is partnering with seven families this year, with two rehab projects, two new home constructions and three critical home repair projects.
Last year, HFHDC logged more than 12,000 volunteer hours from nearly 650 volunteers to build homes alongside four families.
Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County has been an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1997. It has built 34 homes for sale to partner families throughout Douglas County, providing housing for 140 people.
