‘The Green Fields of Summer’ tells Clippers’ history

Lakes Area Theatre (LAT) in Alexandria is offering the following productions this week:

ON STAGE

There is no live performance at LAT this holiday weekend. The next show will be Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m. when LAT presents the fantasy The Unicorn in the Closet by Massachusetts playwright Mike Murphy. The show will be directed by Kevin Lee. The cast is yet to be determined.

ON THE AIR

Taken from oral histories of Douglas County residents, The Green Fields of Summer traces the history of The Alexandria Clippers baseball team and how Satchel Paige came to play in town.

The show was done in collaboration with the Douglas County Historical Society through Legacy Grant money from the Minnesota Historical Society.

Written by Kevin Lee, the show was directed by Mike Roers and stars Jim Thoreen, Courtney Bitzan, Gary Lund, Tom Chorley, Kip Sundlee and Jim Odden. Music is by Karen Gladen, with Daniel Roers on sound effects. Some sound effects were designed in post-production.

The show will air on Saturday, May 24 at 12:30 p.m. on KXRA 1490 AM.
