The Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum (MLMM) and Gardens has received a grant for the construction of a gateway to the gardens that are on the campus of the museum.

The gate will be installed at the west entrance to the maritime gardens. It is being designed and constructed by Larry Meyers, a local decorative metal artist.

The gate will combine the themes of the museum and the gardens. Metal will be the choice of materials for the gate, with one side depicting a tree and the other a sail with a vine entwining both.

The gate will stand 10 feet tall and 9 feet wide. Completion date is set for June 2014.

A celebration will be held in the summer for all those that contributed to the garden project.

MLMM board president Kevin Kopischke said, “Thank you to the voters of Minnesota by way of the Lake Region Arts Council for supporting this quality art project. This will be a must-see destination.”

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Lake Region Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.
