Navy Seaman Brittany Torgrimson, daughter of Nicole Torgrimson of Alexandria, and Wesley and Jean Marie Torgrimson of Evansville, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.
During the eight-week program, Torgrimson completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was placed on physical fitness.
Torgrimson is a 2011 graduate of Jefferson High School in Alexandria. She is also a 2013 graduate of Alexandria Technical and Community College, with an Associate of Arts degree.

Army National Guard Pvt. Tyler Matzke graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia, which consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).
In the first nine weeks of initial entry training, or basic combat training, Matzke received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship qualification, Army history and more.
During AIT, Matzke completed a seven-week cavalry scout course. The training included subjects and instructions to operate, maintain and fire M2/M3 Bradley fighting vehicles; call and adjust fire on enemy targets, recognize friendly and threat vehicles; conduct reconnaissance and security missions, perform foot patrols, conduct land navigation, locate and neutralize mines; and operate and maintain scout vehicles.
Matzke is the son of Lisa and stepson of Lynn Peterson of Villard. He is a 2013 graduate of Osakis High School.
