Goetsch, Floding finish top 10 at state

The Alexandria trapshooting team didn’t quite make the team portion of the Minnesota State High School League’s Clay Target state tournament, but the Cardinals had two that finished in the top-10 of the individual shoot.

Sam Goetsch was Alexandria’s top finisher in the tournament as he powdered 97 out of 100 clays. That tied him with two other shooters for sixth place overall. Tyler Floding was right behind him with a 96, good for a six-way tie for ninth place.

Austin Yutrzenka tied for 25th with a score of 93, while Andrew Rentschler rounded out the Cardinals’ competitors at the shoot with an 87. That left him in a six-way tie for 63rd place overall.

The top 100 shooters by average per round through the regular season were invited to compete in the individual state tournament on Saturday. Gust Lundeen of Dassel-Cokato won the individual title by shooting 99 out of 100 clays.
