Glenwood, Minn., woman's baby dies after chase suspect crashes into vehicle
A driver who led police on a high speed chase in St. Cloud Friday crashed into another car, killing a driver from Starbuck and injuring a pregnant Glenwood woman, whose baby later died after being delivered by an emergency C-section.
The chase began when Waite Park police tried to pull over Timothy Gilles, 22, of Waite Park.
Gilles, who was wanted on a felony warrant for a controlled substance crime and for allegedly assaulting a police officer, fled away at high speeds.
The chase ended after about half of a mile when Gilles slammed into the driver's side of vehicle driven by Timothy Casanova of Starbuck. Casanova, 30, was killed in the crash.
His passenger, Megan Thomsen of Glenwood, was also injured. She was eight months pregnant and her child, Timothy James Thomsen, died Monday afternoon.
Thomsen was listed in fair condition at the St. Cloud Hospital.
After the crash, Gilles fled on foot. Authorities caught up with him, tased him and placed him under arrest.
Gilles was charged on Monday with one count of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, resulting in the death of another. More charges are expected, according to a report in the St. Cloud Times.
