Get ready to stuff a truck

Calling all students: Food needed for ninth annual Stuff-A-Truck food drive.

Pete's County Market in Alexandria is hosting its annual Stuff-A-Truck food drive, which is running now through November 13.

The truck will travel to all schools in Alexandria School District on Friday, November 13, beginning at 9 a.m. with pick-up completed by 12:30 p.m.

All the food and items donated will be given to the Outreach Food Shelf of Douglas County.

Here is how students and families can help:

•Bring non-perishable groceries or select non-food products to your school and fill the bags and boxes that are set up in each classroom.

•Purchase any non-perishable food items or certain specific non-food items and place them in the collection bins at Pete's County Market.

•Purchase a "Random Bag of Kindness," which can be found at Pete's and put it in the collection bins. Bags can be purchased for $9.99.

•Make a cash donation and put it in any of the donation boxes located at each cash register at Pete's County Market.

Last year, 17 pallets of food were collected, 195 "Random Bags of Kindness" were purchased and $300 was donated during the Stuff-A-Truck campaign.

Suggested non-perishable food items to donate include macaroni and cheese, crackers, canned goods, peanut butter, jelly, Jell-O, pasta, rice, coffee, tea, baking goods, soups, pasta sauces, baby food and dried milk.

Suggested other items include bar soap, cleaning supplies, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and diapers.
