Gerald Weatherwax, 90

Gerald "Poik" Wayne Weatherwax, 90, passed away at his home in Alexandria on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

Poik was born at the home of his parents, George W. and Clara E. (Lee) Weatherwax on March 22, 1924 in Alexandria. He was baptized and confirmed at First Congregational UCC in Alexandria. Poik attended school in Alexandria and graduated from Central School in 1942. He started working for the U.S. Postal Service about 1947 and retired in 1979.

He was married to Helen L. Powell on May 22, 1949 at the Congregational Church in Alexandria. Poik and Helen had three children, Timothy, George and Erin.

Poik was a member of the Alexandria Country Club for almost 70 years. He was a good golfer and played in many tournaments. He also enjoyed covering the Resorters Tournament with "Cap" Paciotti for local radio station KXRA for many years. Poik enjoyed bowling when he was younger. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 69 years, where he played cards with his friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Erin, of Alexandria and his two sons, Tim of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and George (Catherine) of Alexandria; his sisters, Hope (Bisek) and Audrey (Froemming); and four grandchildren, Eve, Heather, Mike and Sean; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; sister, Mavis Salt; and his brother, Clare.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 23 at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
