Free Worksite Wellness Summit in Detroit Lakes offers advice for cutting healthcare costs

PartnerSHIP 4 Health, the Minnesota SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Program) of Becker, Clay, Otter Tail, and Wilkin Counties, will be sponsoring a Worksite Wellness Summit "Making Worksite Wellness Worth Your While", open to all organizations and businesses in West Central Minnesota and beyond.

The summit will be held in Detroit Lakes at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center on Tuesday, June 14. There is no cost for this event and lunch is provided. For more information visit: www.workplacewellness.eventbrite.com

"Each year employees and employers often find themselves at the mercy of rising health care premiums. We know that businesses can be proactive and we want to provide them the tools to take back some of that cost control", says Jason Bergstrand, PartnerSHIP 4 Health Project Manager. "The medical and human expense related to treating chronic disease are simply unsustainable and yet there are some positive actions employers can take", Bergstrand adds, "We know that four behaviors tobacco use, physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and harmful use of alcohol result in 80 percent of all chronic diseases. Making a healthy lifestyle change in these areas can reduce your health care costs by 25 percent."

Businesses find themselves at a critical crossroads on whether to continue to: pony up more of their profits to healthcare premiums, transfer more responsibility to the employee or drop health care coverage altogether.

The summit has been designed for businesses and organizations in the west central Minnesota area to provide the tools they need to develop and maintain a robust worksite wellness initiative that will ultimately increase worker productivity, reduce absenteeism and worker's compensation, and control health care costs.

"We are excited to be able to bring into our region such highly experienced experts in the field of Worksite Wellness", says Ann Dolence, PartnerSHIP 4 Health Worksite Wellness Coordinator. Dolence adds, "This summit will have the feel of a national conference because of the level of expertise from renowned speakers such as: Dr. David Hunnicutt of Wellness Council of America". PartnerSHIP 4 Health is pleased to be able to provide this resource to employers so that they can have a dramatic impact on the health of their employees and their financial bottom line.
