Free personal safety course stops criminals in their tracks
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Josh Waltzing of the Schutz Martial Arts Association is teaming up with Someplace Safe of Douglas County to conduct the second Annual Conquering Fear of Violence Course.
This personal safety course will be held on Wednesday, October 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lincoln Elementary Gym in Alexandria. This course is open to anyone over the age of 14 and is provided free of charge.
Many courses teach about physical self-defense skills as "damage control" but provide little information about how to stop violence before it starts.
This course is different. Students will learn about the "Five Stages of Violent Crime" and the "Pyramid of Personal Safety."
Both concepts were created by Marc MacYoung of www.NoNonsenseSelfDefense.com and provide a way to externally evaluate what is happening around you.
Crime is a process and these concepts will teach you how to identify the path criminals are taking and stop them in their tracks, according to MacYoung.
"No damage control is ever as good as preventing the problem in the first place," he said. "That's personal safety."
