Forum set for sheriff, commissioner candidates

Here’s an opportunity to find out more about the local candidates who will be on the ballot for the upcoming primary election.

The Alexandria League of Women Voters and the Alexandria Senior Community Center will host a candidate forum for the primary election of Douglas County sheriff and District 5 county commissioner.

With the primary election scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, this forum will give voters the opportunity to direct questions to the four sheriff candidates – Troy Wolbersen (incumbent), Greg Windhurst, Rich Homan and Scot Umlauf – and the three commissioner candidates – Chuck Nettestad, Owen Miller and Elroy Frank.

The forum is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, at 7 p.m. at the Alexandria Senior Center.

The center is located on Hawthorne Street, across from St. Mary’s School.

All interested county voters are invited.

Questions can be directed to the Senior Center at (320) 763-2087.

The sheriff election is taking place countywide while the District 5 commissioner race includes voters in Alexandria Wards 3, 4 and 5 (precinct 2).

The two top vote getters in the primary will appear on the ballot for the November 4 election.
