The Minnewaska football team did not have an answer for the Lac qui Parle Valley running game last Friday night as LQPV went on the road and left with a 27-14 win.

Sam Haas led an Eagles' running game that finished with 250 yards on 55 carries. Haas finished with 141 of those yards, while quarterback Blake Hoium scored two touchdowns on 12 carries.

"I was really surprised that we did not do better against the run," Lakers head coach Steve Hill said. "We played so well up front in our scrimmage last Saturday, but we could not come up with a stop when we needed one against LQPV. This is an area of our game that must improve."

Minnewaska couldn't counter that rushing attack. The Lakers ran for just three yards on 18 carries. Mike Nielsen finished with a team-leading seven carries for 16 yards, but quarterback Andrew Amundson was corralled in the backfield a number of times for a loss of 24 yards.

Nielsen scored on a three-yard run in the first quarter that made it a 7-7 game after one. The Eagles rattled off 20 unanswered from that point before Amundson connected with Brady Johnsrud for a 60-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Amundson finished 9-of-11 passing for 177 yards.

"[He] had a good night throwing the ball," Hill said. "He made good decisions and was accurate. I am most concerned that we were unable to get our running game going. This has to change, starting [this] week."

The Lakers will get a chance to do that when they head on the road tonight, Friday, for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Yellow Medicine East. The Sting lost their opening game at Foley, 21-8.
