Food to be distributed in Glenwood today; volunteers are needed
West Central Minnesota Communities Action and the North Country Food Bank have organized an Emergency Storm Food Recovery Distribution for Pope County in Glenwood today, Monday, August 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. or until the food is gone at Central Square - 105 NE 2nd Avenue in Glenwood.
Due to the recent storms that have passed through, many residents in Pope County have gone without electricity and this distribution is an attempt to help supply food to them. Storm-impacted households may receive home deliveries free of charge by calling West Central MN Communities Action's front desk at 1-800-492-4805 to set up a drop off times. Please park on the east side of the building and enter through the east door off of the old gymnasium.
This announcement is also a call for volunteers. Retired and senior volunteers are assisting in this effort, but more help is needed. Contact Heather Thormodson at WCMCA at 1-800-492-4805 to volunteer.
The food is provided by North Country Food Bank Inc., out of Crookston, a nonprofit agency that distributes almost 200,000 pounds of food products to more than 150 hunger relief agencies in northwest Minnesota and part of Grand Forks, North Dakota, each month. All who attend this distribution will receive an abundance of grocery items, including produce items if available. If you are unable to attend, you may send someone in your place, as long as the proxy is able to register for you.
Qualifying to receive the food is simple. The only qualification is that you eat. You are asked to bring your own boxes, baskets or bins for carrying the distribution you receive.
