Flynn, Branch compete at state meet
Alexandria senior Patrick Flynn finished 74th at the boys’ Nordic ski state meet on Thursday, while junior Carl Branch finished 108th out of the 117 skiers that competed at Giants Ridge near Biwabik.
Flynn started the day with a time of 19:22 in the freestyle before adding a classic time of 18:18.3 for a pursuit time of 37:40.3.
Branch finished his freestyle race in 20:16 and the classic portion of his race in 20:10.1 for a pursuit time of 40:26.1.
“Assistant coach Taylor Ellison and myself are proud of the accomplishments this season and are happy with Pat and Carl being able to compete at the state race,” head coach Jeremy Rapp said. “It was a great experience for them and a great finale for our senior captain Pat Flynn, who has been a dedicated member of the team since 7th grade.”
Zak Ketterson of Bloomington Jefferson won the state title by more than 10 seconds after finishing with a pursuit time of 32:52.7. Nick Gardner of Mounds Park Academy was second (33:03.6) and Leo Hipp of Forest Lake rounded out the top three in 33:05.2. Cory Rouw out of St. Cloud Tech also represented the Central Lakes Conference with a fourth-place finish in 33:07.2.
