First Friday Concert features two group performers
The DooWop Divas, along with Mary Pohl and Jewett Benson, will perform at the First Friday Concert on Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at the Evansville Art Center, 111 Main Street, Evansville. A free will offering will be accepted.
The DooWop Divas sing a variety of songs but enjoy performing music from the 1950s and ’60s.
The members, who are all retired, include Linda Engfer, Virginia Hegre, Joan Huseth, Cindy Losch, Kathy Moen, LaDean Moen, Mary Robinson and Glenda Seela. They have performed at various events in the Alexandria area such as Art in the Park, Douglas County Fair and concerts on the courthouse lawn.
Pohl and Benson perform music from the World War II era, ballads, country songs, a little Broadway, and a few newer songs. Pohl sings and Benson plays the guitar. Pohl’s vocal background includes Broadway musicals, choral music, folk music and opera.
Pohl and Benson started playing together several years ago and have performed at the Evansville Art Center, Sixth Avenue Wine and Ale, Grand Arbor, Nelson Gables, Windmill Ponds, St. William’s Nursing Center in Parkers Prairie, and in private homes.
