A little rain in the morning didn’t keep visitors from attending Awake the Lakes on Saturday, June 28. The fire department water fight was one of the large draws in the afternoon.

Bill Thoennes of the Alexandria Fire Department arranged the water fight. There were 14 teams, with three people to a team.

The following fire departments battled it out: Alexandria, Alexandria Explorers, Parkers Prairie, Osakis, Carlos, Garfield, Forada, Cyrus, Villard and Miltona.

The object of a water fight is for two opposing teams to use fire hoses to move a “barrel” suspended on a cable to the opposite end. Each round had a 1-minute time limit and was the best two out of three.

Once the children in attendance realized what fun it was to run through the second-hand spray, they waited in anticipation for each new round and were soon soaked from head to foot.

After a valiant effort by all of the teams, the results were as follows: Garfield, first place; Cyrus, second place; Carlos, third place.
