Firearm safety courses offered

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), District 206 Community Education and local instructors will offer youth firearm safety training classes.

All students must be at least 11 years of age at the start of these class sessions in order to participate. Attending all sessions is mandatory due to state requirements for certification. Minnesota Deer Hunter’s Association (Douglas County Chapter) pays the registration fee for each student who successfully completes the program in order to keep costs down for participants.

Advanced registration is required due to limited space. The course is seven sessions and takes place at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria for six of those. The classroom days are scheduled for March 10, 11, 13, 17, 18 and 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A field exercise and shoot will then be held on Saturday, March 22 at 8 a.m.
