Find fun at the fair
Pick your fun: rides, games, 4-H exhibits, corn dogs, races or just strolling down the midway.
It's Douglas County Fair time!
This year's fair swung into action Thursday and continues through Sunday. It's the 125th anniversary of the fair's organizing entity, the Douglas County Agricultural Association.
Many of the traditional attractions are back, including demolition derbies, stock car races, a tractor pull, carnival rides, 4-H and open class exhibits, K-9 demonstrations and of course, a large variety of fair food.
There are also plenty of new attractions.
More than a dozen entertainment acts are slated, from young dancers and basketball handlers to raptors and a variety of musical acts.
Attendees can try their hand at one of the contests happening at the fair, including gingerbread house making, flower arranging, and a senior spelling bee.
And for the competitive kids, there's turtle racing, minnow racing, piggy racing, mutton bustin', Lego building and a pedal tractor pull.
Kids can also enjoy coin hunts, hair braiding, face painting, make-and-take projects and bike giveaways.
The fair offers a perfect opportunity for all ages to learn to dance. A variety of dance styles will be taught throughout the fair, including Scandinavian folk dance, ballroom dance, country dance and more.
A new addition to the fair is Maggie the Milking Cow. The Fiberglas cow has a working udder that allows individuals to "milk" her.
On Friday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m., kids ages 12 and younger can get reduced prices on most carnival rides. On Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m., all ages can purchase wristbands to ride most rides as many times as they want.
The Senior Citizen of the Year will be honored on Thursday at 11:45 a.m., and a Century Farm recognition will take place Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
