FINAL RESORTERS RESULTS: Six champions crowned
The final results are in for the 88th annual Resorters Golf Tournament.
Champions were determined in six divisions today, Saturday, at the Alexandria Golf Club.
Former Alexandrian Jim Lehman Jr., the brother of pro golfer Tom Lehman, won the Men's Division, defeating Will Harris of Alexandria in the final match, 5-4.
At 51, Lehman was old enough to compete in the Senior Men's Division (the qualifying age was lowered this year), but instead he sparkled in the Men's championship field, taking home the same honors Tom Lehman did back in 1980.
Jim Lehman Jr., a 1976 graduate of Jefferson High School in Alexandria, now lives in Edina.
Alexandria's Maggie Leland, who will be a high school senior this fall, won the Women's Division with a 5-3 win over Allison Thimjon of Plymouth.
The Executive Men's champion is Stefan Freeman of St. Cloud, who made a huge comeback against his brother, Jon Freeman of Chanhassen, in the final.
After the first seven holes, Stefan Freeman was down by five, but he turned the match around on the back nine, tying the match on No. 17 and then winning it on the first extra hole.
The Senior Men's trophy went to Jon Empanger of Chaska, a five-time champion in the Executive Men's Division. He defeated defending champ Peter Glanville of Scottsdale, Arizona 7-6 in the final.
For the sixth straight year, Ron Clayton of Sarasota, Florida won the Master's Division (formerly known as the Super Seniors).
Clayton edged Dave Harris of Alexandria in the final, 1-up.
Last year's runner-up in the Junior's Division, Nick Heinen of Edmond, Oklahoma, took home the top prize in the division this year. He coasted to an 8-7 win over Tommy Brandabur of Minnetrista in the final.
