Festival of Birds coming to Detroit Lakes

The 17th annual Festival of Birds will take place May 15-18 in Detroit Lakes.

The festival is an opportunity for bird lovers to get out and see plenty of birds in the field and also hear from experts through one-to-one interactions and speeches. The festival this year will feature birds such as prairie chickens, shorebirds, passenger pigeons, the bobolink and more.

As many as 44 people who sign up will even get a chance to head to the field to watch the prairie chicken go through its annual mating ritual. Plenty of field trips, book signings, speeches and workshops are scheduled throughout the four-day event.

There are fees for the field trips and evening speakers, but several of the workshops and book signings are free of charge. Early deadline to register is May 2 for a chance to win a pair of binoculars.

For more information on the festival, visit www.visitdetroitlakes.com or call the chamber of commerce at (218) 847-9202 or (800) 542-3992.
