Alexandria already had the Central Lakes Conference title wrapped up heading into the match, but the Otters avenged an earlier loss to the Cardinals by winning 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21. The loss finished off the regular season for both teams as Alexandria finished 18-8 and 11-1 in CLC play and the Otters were 19-4 and 10-2 in the league.

Alexandria’s Brooke Swanson got her first varsity start and took advantage of the opportunity with a team-high 10 kills.

“Swanson provided energy and enthusiasm throughout the match,” head coach Becky Schlichting said. “Emily Kuennen also had a great night for the Cards with seven kills. Our middle and right-side attack, led by Amanda Christianson with nine kills, were something the Otters really struggled to defend and when we were able to get the ball up to the net where Haack needed it to run the offense, we had a lot of success.”

Amanda Haack finished with 37 assists for the Cardinals. Kalley Bistodeau added seven kills, while Gretchen Watkins had a season-high 24 digs in leading the Alexandria defense.

The Cardinals will now look ahead to the 8AAA tournament, where they have the top QRF ranking of any team in the field after going 10-0 against section opponents this season. The opening round of the section tournament starts next Wednesday, October 23.
