Fall Classic at Viking Speedway cancelled
The 11th annual Fall Classic at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria has been cancelled due to a forecast that is calling for rain and below-average temperatures from Wednesday through Saturday of this week.
The Fall Classic also had to be cancelled because of weather in 2009. As of mid-day on Wednesday, the forecast called for below average temperatures, wide-spread rain showers and even possible snow to fall in the Alexandria area over the next three days, therefore the decision was made to cancel the entire weekend.
"As frustrating and incredibly hard of a decision as this is, it was an easy one to make with the forecast for as much as 70-80 percent chance of rain each of the next four days with Sunday’s forecast even going downhill as well," event promoter Chris Stepan said in a release. "We certainly didn’t want to get everyone here and then not be able to get the show in because of the weather, so we all felt it was best to cancel today so folks didn’t spend any unnecessary time or money traveling to Alexandria. It sure would have been nice for Mother Nature to give us a break since the racing world has struggled so badly with weather all season, but clearly that was not meant to be this year."
