Fall adult basic education/GED classes begin
Adult basic education (ABE) and general educational development (GED) preparation classes are being offered this fall in Alexandria through Community Education at the Adult Basic Education location, 1204 Highway 27 West (Alexandria Technical and Community College interior design building).
Flexible ABE/GED classes are held on Mondays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. All classes are held in Room 907.
These free classes offer assistance in preparation for the tests of general educational development (GED), ACCUPLACER tests, as well as with basic reading, writing, spelling, math, and everyday living/coping skills, such as completing forms, balancing a checkbook, passing the written driver's license test, etc.
English as a second language (ESL) classes are held Mondays from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m., Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. These classes are for adults whose native language is not English and who want to improve their English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Citizenship classes are also offered.
Free online GED or ACCUPLACER test preparation classes are available and can be accessed from any Internet-connected computer that meets minimum hardware requirements. Also offered online are English as another language and basic brush-up classes in reading, writing and math.
Anyone age 16 or older who has basic educational needs and is not enrolled in a high school is welcome. The program is informal and allows students to set their own goals and work at their own pace in a friendly atmosphere. Students can begin at any time during the year and finish when their goals have been completed.
